Fashion designer Jasper Conran marries boyfriend, ends 13-year feud with mother

Joe Williams December 15, 2015

The fashion icon ended his feud with author Shirley Conran as he wed Irish artist Oisin Byrne.

Jasper Conran’s mother has told of her relief after her son finally forgave her for making a “rude remark” about her son’s lifestyle nearly fifteen years ago.

Feminist author Shirley Conran says she was delighted to receive an invite to her son’s wedding, after the pair fell out over a decade ago.

Conran wed his Irish boyfriend – artist and performer Oisin Byrne – in an opulent ceremony over the weekend.

The pair exchanged vows at Wardour Castle in Wiltshire, surrounded by close friends and family – including the fashion designer’s estranged mother.

“I was there,” Shirley Conran told the MailOnline of the big day.

“It was a very splendid wedding and a very enjoyable day, but I don’t want to say any more about it.”

The writer had previously told of the upset her feud with her openly gay son had caused her, saying she feared they would not resolve their issues before her death.

“I’m sad,” she said. “I want to make up with Jasper before I die and when I do I will take out a full-page ad in The Times to tell everyone.”

Jasper Conran is well-known for fashion creations, as well as his love of designing costumes for stage and screen.

The multi award winner has designed a fashion ranges for Debenhams depatment stores since 1996.

He has subsequently designed women’s accessories, lingerie, hosiery, menswear, men’s accessories, childrenswear, and homeware for the company.

Conran has also designed costumes for various operas and stage productions, including ‘My Fair Lady’, ‘Swan Lake’ and ‘The Sleeping Beauty’.
