Marriage equality marked by Facebook in top 10 events of 2015

Facebook has released its annual look back for this year, and features marriage equality in its top ten.

The ‘Year in Review’ is released each December by the social network as a look-back at the past twelve months.

The top ten list ranks as follows:

  1. US Presidential Election
  2. November 13 Attacks in Paris
  3. Syrian Civil War & Refugee Crisis
  4. Nepal Earthquakes
  5. Greek Debt Crisis
  6. Marriage Equality
  7. Fight Against ISIS
  8. Charlie Hebdo Attack
  9. Baltimore Protests
  10. Charleston Shooting & Flag Debate

A video shared by Facebook begins with Vietnam’s Pride in January, and goes on to mark a number of LGBT issues such as the US Supreme Court ruling in favour of same-sex marriage, and Ireland’s referendum on the same issue.

Caitlyn Jenner’s coming out as trans and campaigning on transgender issues is also featured, alongside hashtags like #BlackLivesMatter, and footage of protests and demonstrations.

Tragedies such as Charlie Hebdo and the November shootings at the Bataclan Theatre in Paris are also marked, and the video ends with the message “Lets stand together in 2016.”
