Cara Delevingne is being accused of stealing the design of an iconic feminist t-shirt after releasing her own “The Future Is Female” sweatshirt design.

The actor announced she was selling the design on her Instagram with all the proceeds going to the United Nations Foundation campaign group Girl Up.

However, Los Angeles based Otherwild Goods and Services, who also sell the design, are claiming that they hold the copyright and that the Paper Towns star has used the design “without permission”.

Speaking to Jezebel, the owner of Otherwild Rachel Berks said “Otherwild’s reissue and redesign of the slogan is protected under copyright law,

“It is confounding that she would do this to a small queer feminist-owned business after purchasing the product from us just a few weeks ago.”

According to Jezebel, Delevingne’s girlfriend Annie Clark (also know as musician St. Vincent) first bought the design several weeks before.

“She has changed the attribution several times today,” Berks claims.

“But she has not offered to wholesale from us, or cease and desist producing and selling our shirts and create her own design.”

The design first appeared in Labyris Books, one of the first women’s book shops in New York in the 1970’s.

Since then Otherwild reissued the design, donating 25% of profits to Planned Parenthood.

Delevingne has claimed in the comments of her Instagram post that Berks and Otherwild are not the creators and that she did not steal the design, according to Refinery 29.
