James Dobson, founder of virulently homophobic campaigning group Focus on the Family, has admitted that conservative Christians has lost the war against LGBT equality.

According to a report from Right Wing Watch, the anti-LGBT evangelical Christian campaigner was talking to televangelist Andrew Wommack on his “The Gospel Truth” TV show when he made the admission.

Discussing the Supreme Court decision to effectively allow same-sex marriages in all fifty states, Dobson told Wommack “…and I was contemplating this foreboding, this black cloud, it hit me like a ton of bricks,

“That decision is not really about gay marriage. It’s not. It’s about everything else. It’s about the entire culture war.

“It’s about control of the public schools and it’s what happens in universities. It’s about the economy and it’s about business and it’s about the military and it’s about medicine.

“It’s about everything. We lost the entire culture war with that one decision. The gay marriage thing was just part of it, but it’s going to touch every dimension.”

Dobson is a life long campaigner against LGBT equality. He has previously linked the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre with societies views on gay marriage.

His Focus on the Family campaign group also paid $400,000 to the proposition 8 campaign that aimed to void same-sex marriages in California in 2008.

He also co-founded the Family Research Council, who the Southern Poverty Law Centre have listed as a hate group.

During President Barack Obama’s first presidential campaign, Dobson accused him of “distorting the Bible” and also pushing a “fruitcake interpretation” of the US Constitution.
