Disturbing CCTV footage has been released showing a gay man running for his life after being shot outside a gay sex club in Sydney.

Milad bin Ahmad-Shah al-Ahmadzai has pleaded not guilty to five charges – including shooting with intent to murder – after he and another man were allegedly involved in the attack.

The video – which was played as part al-Ahmadzai’s ongoing trial – show the victim, Michael Rooke, crawling away from two masked men who kick him before shooting him at least seven times.

Mr Rooke is then seen running through the car park, leaving a trail of blood as he scrambles for safety, reports 9NEWS.

He sustained numerous injuries, including a ruptured kidney and lacerated liver, but survived the attack.

The club, Aarows, is billed on its website as a “secure, relaxed environment where gay and bi people can meet and socialise together 24 hours a day, 7 days a week”.

Al-Ahmadzai was jailed for nine months in 2014 for threatening to slit the throat of an Australian intelligence officer.

He has been held in a maximum security since his arrest in 2013.

It has also emerged that the defendant could be held in contempt after repeatedly refusing to acknowledge the authority of the court.

He claims to only be at “the behest of Islam” and has consistently refused to stand for judges in court.

The news follows a report of unknown gunmen opening fire at an LGBT gay festival in Mexico, killing at least three people and wounding five others.
