The singer triggered fears for her health, after the Facebook post claimed she had taken an overdose at a hotel in Ireland.

“There is only so much any woman can be expected to bear,” the post began.

“The last two nights finished me off. I have taken an overdose.

“There is no other way to get respect. I am not at home, I’m at a hotel, somewhere in Ireland, under another name.”

Although it is not yet know if the post is genuine or not, many fans of the star shared the post in a bid to alert the authorities.

The message went on to highlight struggles the singer has been experienced with regards to her health and family life.

“I’m invisible. I don’t matter a shred to anyone,” it added.

“No one has come near me. I’ve died a million times already with the pain of it.”

Authorities in Dublin have since confirmed O’Connor had been “found safe and well” and was receiving medical treatment.

The mother-of-four has spoken candidly in the past about her mental health issues, describing her battles with bipolar disorder and depression.

Ruth Sutherland, Samaritans’ chief executive said, “Our research shows that many people find social media to be a crucial outlet when they are struggling to cope.

“If you are concerned about someone you know, or are experiencing difficult feelings, talking through whatever is getting to you can make all the difference – it can be life-saving.”

Earlier this year, the Irish star cancelled a series of tours, citing her son’s and her own exhaustion as the reason.

She also claimed that she needed to work in order to continue feeding her family, as she had been “ripped off left, right and centre. I consequently do not at all have the kind of money people think I might have.”

Last year revealed she also revealed she was looking to date women – because it “ain’t really working out” with men.
