Presidential hopeful Marco Rubio claims ‘God’s law’ trumps Supreme Court on equal marriage

Republican Presidential hopeful Marco Rubio has claimed same-sex marriage isn’t ‘settled’ – because following “God’s rules” is more important than abiding by Supreme Court rulings.

The highest court in the US ruled earlier this year that same-sex marriage is a constitutionally protected right, cementing the right to marry in all 50 states.

A number of Republicans including Presidential front-runner Donald Trump conceded that opposing same-sex marriage is a “dead issue” following the decision – but other candidates continue to oppose the ruling.

US Senator and Presidential hopeful Marco Rubio is the latest to claim that the issue is not “settled” – though he stopped short of pledging to void all existing same-sex marriages as three others have.

Speaking to the Christian Broadcast Network, Rubio claimed: “It is current law – it is not settled law.”

Citing abortion rulings, he said: It doesn’t mean that we don’t aspire to fix it, because we think it’s wrong. Until we can get the Supreme Court to overturn [that ruling], we do everything possible to confront it.”

He added: “We are clearly called, in the Bible, to adhere to our civil authorities, but that conflicts with also a requirement to adhere to God’s rules.

“When those two come in conflict, God’s rules always win.

“In essence, if we are ever ordered by a government authority to personally violate and sin, violate God’s law and sin, if we’re ordered to stop preaching the gospel, if we’re ordered to perform a same-sex marriage as someone presiding over it, we are called to ignore that.

“We cannot abide by that because government is compelling us to sin.”

I’m in Iowa — the heartland of America. Earlier today, I sat down with Presidential hopeful Marco Rubio. I asked him about same-sex marriage being so-called “settled law.” He had some interesting things to say about the moral conflict many Christians face when the Bible commands to obey civil authorities but also the overlying mandate to follow God’s law. What do you think of what Rubio had to say? Watch below. We’ll have much more on this next week AFTER THANKSGIVING on The 700 Club. This is just a little taste of what’s to come.
