A teacher who  says she was sacked for refusing to address a trans boy as male, has filed a lawsuit alleging she was discriminated against.

Madeline Kirksey, of Houston, was sacked on 3 November from the Children’s Lighthouse Learning Center after she refused to address her trans boy student as male, or use his correct name.

She has since filed a lawsuit alleging her religious rights, and rights as a black woman were “not vindicated but destroyed.”

The school, however, said it could not comment on the matter, but did say Kirksey was not sacked for discriminating against the student.

A federal discrimination complaint has been filed, attorneys for the teacher confirmed this week.

The lawsuit was announced by Kirksey’s lawyer at a press conference also addressed by her pastor.

After a bitter campaign that focused on transgender bathroom access, the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance, (HERO) was overwhelmingly voted down by the residents of Houston.

After the vote, Houston’s openly lesbian Mayor Annise Parker said “This was a campaign of fear-mongering and deliberate lies,” .

“No one’s rights should be subject to a popular vote.”

Welch has previously said that he prays for God to “free” the mayor from her “condition.”
