When asked about Davis, Lawrence said “[That] lady who makes me embarrassed to be from Kentucky.

“Don’t even say her name in this house,”

She also had some stern words for the Kentucky clerk’s supporters.

“All those people holding their crucifixes, which may as well be pitchforks, thinking they’re fighting the good fight. I grew up in Kentucky. I know how they are.”

Lawrence told the reporter that she had been raised Republican, but could not conceive of supporting the party due to their views on women.

“It’s 2015 and gay people can get married and we think that we’ve come so far, so, yay! But have we? I don’t want to stay quiet about that stuff.”

Kim Davis has become infamous since the US Supreme Court legalised same-sex marriage across the country, due to her repeated refusal to issue marriage certificates to same sex couples.

Davis has made many friends in the anti-LGBT movement across America, including Mike Huckabee and the next Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin who has promised to re-write the state’s marriage law to accommodate Davis.

Recently many people chose to dress up as the infamous Kentucky clerk for Halloween.
