After the men started to touch her neck and began to shout abuse, the couple stopped the bike, fearing a road accident – before the men began to viscously beat them.

“The only reason to get so violent for those men was they wanted to touch me all over and talk to me,” she wrote on Facebook.

“And when I and my boyfriend opposed what they were doing, they got so angry that started hitting both of us.”

Rudrani said that she believes the men attacked because they feel trans people have less rights.

“Those men believed that as a trans person I can be treated and handled any way they want and I should not be oppose it,” she added.

The pair escaped after Rudrani started screaming, causing their attackers to flee, before contacting police.

The model says that although her injuries have healed, the emotional effect the attack has had on her will take much longer.

“The physical damage can be healed,” she said, “but I’m scared of even going out now.”

Globally, transphobic attacks and murders are as common as ever, with members of the trans community receiving regular threats to their safety.

Over in the US, twenty trans women have been murdered in the United States this year alone – sixteen of whom were trans women of colour.

The increase in violence has lead activists to describe the the situation as “an epidemic of anti-trans violence”.

“We in the transgender community right now are reeling,” actress Laverne Cox said.

Voicing her concern over the growing number of trans related crimes, she declared: “It really is a state of emergency.

“Your life should not be in danger simply for being who you are,” she added.
