Germaine Greer: Lopping off your d**k and wearing a dress doesn’t make you a f***ing woman

Germaine Greer has delivered a foul-mouth rant about transgender women, after coming under scrutiny for her anti-trans views.

Feminist author Greer was due to give a talk at Cardiff University next month – but cancelled the talk of her own accord after a number of activists protested her repeated derogatory comments about trans women.

Greer has previously spoken out against “man’s delusion that he is female”, claiming trans women are “some kind of ghastly parody” that will never be women because they do not know what it’s like to have a “big, hairy, smelly vagina”.

The author has since caused more outrage, referring to Caitlyn Jenner as a “he/she” who “wanted the limelight that the female members of the family were enjoying”.

Speaking to the Victoria Derbyshire Show, a “pretty cross” Greer issued a sweary rant about trans people.

Greer’s statement, which Derbyshire bravely recounted to trans actress Rebecca Root, says: “Just because you lop off your d**k and then wear a dress doesn’t make you a f***ing woman.

“I’ve asked my doctor to give me long ears and liver spots and I’m going to wear a brown coat but that doesn’t turn me into a f***ing cocker spaniel.

“I do understand that some people are born intersex and they deserve support in coming to terms with their gender but it’s not the same thing.

“A man who gets his dick chopped off is actually inflicting an extraordinary act of violence on himself.

Victoria Derbyshire, who picked up a PinkNews Award last week for coverage of LGBT issues, said: “We did ask her to come on the programme.

“She is travelling, so she can’t. She gave us a statement and there are some expletives in this which I will leave out… she was pretty cross.”

Rebecca Root added of the statement: “That leaves me absolutely gobsmacked! Beeping gobsmacked, in fact.

“This is something that I would equate from the worst of the gutter press – not from somebody of such an academic standing, a woman who should know better.

“It’s just ridiculous.”
