Train attack hero ‘awake and stable’ after stabbing outside gay club

A hero who helped stop a massacre on a train is in stable condition – after he was stabbed leaving a gay club.

US Air Force Airman Spencer Stone 1st Class was one of the people who helped thwart a gunman on a French train in August, after tge man opened fire on the Amsterdam to Paris Thalys service.

Mr Stone was awarded the Legion of Honour after helping stop the gunman – but was rushed to hospital this week, after he was stabbed multiple times while leaving Badlands Dance Club in Sacramento, California.

The serviceman was bar hopping with three women and another man and had just left Badlands Dance Club when a confrontation occurred between him and another group.

His condition was previously described as critical – but it has since been announced he is likely out of danger.

A statement from the hospital says: “The UC Davis Medical Center care team for Airman Spencer Stone has upgraded his condition from serious to fair.

“He is awake, able to get out of bed and in good spirits. He is continuing to recover. No additional information will be provided by the medical center at this time.”

“Airman Stone’s family appreciates the outpouring of support and requests that the media continue to respect his right to privacy.”

The hospital added that ‘Fair’ condition means that patient’s vital signs are stable and within normal limits, and that “indicators are favorable”.

The Sacramento Police Department said previously: “We firmly believe that this is not a terrorism related event and that it is in no way related to the incident that occurred in France.

“The assault does not appear to be a random act and is believed to be a nightlife related incident.”

The attackers fled from the scene and are being hunted by police.
