A woman has been fined over £1,500, after gong on a vile rant in a family restaurant.

The perpetrator, Melanie Shaw, went on a rant at the Herne Bay branch of Harvester on 30 June.

The 45-year-old upset children by swearing at them, as well as saying one woman was a “lesbian” who “should have had their children aborted.”

Shaw, who is also known as Melanie York had been “swearing at customers and upsetting children”, said police.

She denied any wrongdoing, saying she had been provoked by other diners while she ate.

“She called one customer a ‘lesbian’ and told them they should have had their children aborted,” said a Kent Police spokesman.

“Shaw was arrested and subsequently charged with using threatening or abusive words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour.”

She appeared at Margate Magistrates’ Court last week, was fined £400 and was told to pay £600 prosecution costs, a £40 victim surcharge.

In addition, she was made to pay a criminal court charge of £520.
