Rupert Murdoch backs anti-gay Republican, implies Obama not ‘real black president’

Joe Williams October 8, 2015

The media mogul has voiced his support of the homophobic Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson.

In tweets sent this week, Rupert Murdoch also suggested that President Barack Obama is not a “real black president”.

In tweets praising Carson, Mr Murdoch wrote: “Ben and Candy Carson terrific. What about a real black President who can properly address the racial divide?”

He also recommended an article for “minority community disappointment” with the president.

Murdoch, 84, is founder of the global News Corporation empire, which owns news providers such as Fox News Channel and The Wall Street Journal in the US, and Sky News, The Sun and Times newspapers in the UK.

This is not the first time Murdoch has shared his admiration for Carson – who has previously compared homosexuality to bestiality and paedophilia.

A few days ago, he tweeted: “Everywhere pundits keep underestimating Ben Carson. But public understand humility as admirable, listen to the multi-faceted strong message.”

“Maybe the one to beat. Irreproachable on background, achievements, character, vision.”

Carson has also said earlier this year that prisons prove being gay is “absolutely” a choice, and has also claimed that he doesn’t believe gay rights are civil rights.

Back in 2012, Murdoch leant his support to another infamously homophobic candidate – notoriously anti-gay Republican Rick Santorum.

Earlier this year, the News Corp boss branded Democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton’s pledge to outlaw discrimination as “fascist”.

He said: “Hillary: No Promises outlaw free speech about LGBT. What next? Sounds almost fascist.”

Murdoch has also previously said people should boycott Guinness when they pulled out of St Patrick’s Day parades over gay exclusion.
