Perez Hilton hits back at homophobic critics following shower selfie

Joe Williams October 6, 2015

The celebrity blogger has hit back after being called a “pervert” for posting a picture of him showering with his young son.

The US gossip writer – who has an adopted son, Mario, and baby daughter Mia – was seen in the snap beaming with his two-year-old son splashing about happily in the background.

He captioned the shot: “Our family motto is: #fun! “We try and incorporate fun into as much of the everyday things we do! #Bathtime”

However, he soon faced a ferocious backlash online, with one Twitter user calling it “creepy” and accusing the blogger of “child abuse”.

Others went on to question whether Hilton was naked around his child – with some homophobic trolls even accusing him of “turning his son into a cupcake”.

Not one for taking abuse lying down, the writer defiantly tweeted afterwards: “Crazy that this has become today’s hot topic.

“Seriously, if this were @ chrishemsworth and his son, people would not be reacting this way.

“I had my bathing suit on, and I didn’t feel the need to clarify that in the caption,” he added.

“Everyone does what they see fit as a parent. Personally, I enjoy putting on my swim trunks and taking a shower with my son as often as possible.

“I’d rather do that than leave him unattended, which will not happen until he’s older and I’m confident he can be safe alone.”

Plenty of fans have also stuck up for the star – telling him even if he was naked it’s normal for parents to bathe with their young children.

One wrote: “No need to explain yourself. Shorts or not, nudity is nothing to be ashamed of and it’s how we teach our children about our bodies.”

Another added: “Anyone who’s a parent didn’t see this as creepy because as adult parents we know the day-to-day life of raising children.”
