The Wrecking Ball singer paid a musical ‘homage’ to the homophobic Kentucky clerk.

Miley Cyrus opened the new season of hit comedy sketch show, Saturday Night Live, by bidding goodbye to the people who made summer 2015 memorable, Kim Davis.

Davis, the clerk for Rowan County Kentucky, was briefly jailed for contempt of court after ignoring direct orders from courts to stop blocking gay weddings.

Before singing hit classic ‘My Way’, Cyrus explained that the song was dedicated to those who had dominated headlines over the past few months – but who we’ll “never, ever see again.”

During the song ‘Davis’ wonders onto the screen – to riotous laughter and cheers from the audience – before dragging the ‘Pope’ on to stand beside her.

The ‘pontiff’ is quick to distance himself from the clerk – as he did earlier last week when it was revealed he had met with Davis during his US PR blitz.

She claimed after the meeting that she “was humbled to meet Pope Francis. Of all people, why me?”

“Pope Francis was kind, genuinely caring, and very personable. He even asked me to pray for him. Pope Francis thanked me for my courage and told me to ‘stay strong.’”

Despite repeatedly refusing to comment on the claims, the Vatican later confirmed that a meeting between Davis and the Pontiff did take place.

A Vatican spokesman said that he “did not deny that the meeting took place, but I have no other comments to add.”

However, many were surprised the Pope found time to meet with a notorious homophobe – given he was apparently too busy to visit LGBT homeless people.

Cyrus is not the first to mock the adamantly homophobic jailbird.

Throughout her battle to deny LGBT people their legal rights, countless online parodies have taken aim at her blatant refusal to do her job.

Fake twitter accounts, endless memes and even video reconstructions have added to the ridiculousness of the situation – bringing humour to the otherwise sad story of ongoing bigotry in the US.

However, Davis was the not the only ‘famous face’ to pop up during the sketch – with the “vile” entrepreneur who recently raised the cost of drugs used in AIDS treatment by 5,500% also featured in the montage.
