Gay UKIP MEP claims refugees might stone him to death

Gay UKIP MEP David Coburn has claimed that the UK should not allow an influx of refugees – because he’s worried he’ll be stoned to death.

Mr Coburn is UKIP’s most senior openly gay figure, as its leader in Scotland and a Member of the European Parliament – but is also known for his often surreal, outspoken comments.

Speaking to Buzzfeed, the politician claimed that the current refugee crisis in Europe is a conspiracy aimed at changing the British way of life, and that homosexuals will be at risk if the UK takes people in.

He said: “Many of these people, as we’ve heard, are ISIS.

“I don’t know about you but I am a homosexual and I do not want to be stoned to death. I want my country to remain the way it is now.

“I don’t want the state religion to change. I don’t want the way this country is run to change. I want people who accept our values.”

He added of an ominous conspiracy: “They’re trying to change the demographics of Europe, someone has this idea.

“They want us to be multicultural, multi this or that – no one’s asked the British people if that’s what they want.

“I am certain someone has an idea in their head about this. If you want to change the demographics of Europe then be honest about it.”

Mr Coburn is no stranger to making controversial comments – facing calls to resign earlier this year after comparing SNP minister Humza Yousaf to convicted terrorist Abu Hamza.

He also previously branded Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson a “fat lesbian” and compared then-SNP leader Alex Salmond to dictator Robert Mugabe.

Despite being gay, the UKIP MEP is a fierce critic of the gay rights movement, regularly claiming that same-sex marriage supporters are “equality Nazis” – and that the Lib Dems and Labour want to ban him from having sex.

Following controversy over UKIP’s participation in this year’s Pride in London parade, Mr Coburn insisted that “the Gay Rights Movement in UK [has] died” because “controlling authoritarians are equality Nazis”.
