The singer has announced she is providing a song for the upcoming LGBT movie.

The 22 year-old singer – who recently came out as pansexual – announced the news by posting a photo on Instagram of the film’s stars Ellen Page and Julianne Moore.

The Wrecking Ball singer said she was “proud” to be taking part in the movie and credited the cast, writing: “thank you to this incredible cast for giving a face to this incredible story and shining light on the brutal dark truth of love vs the law!”

The song will be produced by openly gay songwriter Linda Perry.

Earlier this year, it was announced Juno actress Ellen Page would star in and produce the drama – starring opposite Oscar winner Julianne Moore.

Page opened up about playing her first openly gay character since coming out herself.

The film is based on the true story of New Jersey police officer Laurel Hester – and Hester’s battle while terminally ill to make sure her partner Stacie Andree receives survivor pension benefits, as their relationship wasn’t recognised.

The film is directed by Peter Sollett, and the screenplay is written by Ron Nyswaner, who wrote the Oscar-nominated ‘Philadelphia’.

Cyrus herself is a strong vocal supporter of LGBT rights – recently releasing a graphic new song about having sex with another woman.

In an interview with the New York Times, Cyrus explained that the track ‘Bang Me Box’ was a “pretty self-explanatory” about lesbian sex.

Indeed, the song’s lyrics border on explicit, including the lines “Want to lick it so much that it’s almost like I taste it on the tip of my tongue”.
