Colin Fry, a psychic and medium who appeared on Most Haunted, has died at the age of 53.

The self-professed paranormal expert appeared on a number of TV shows, including 6ixth Sense With Colin Fry – but was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer earlier this year.

A statement from his management said: “It is with much sadness and regret to announce that Colin Fry, Britain’s most loved and respected Spiritualist Medium, lost his fight against cancer and passed away peacefully in hospital at 2.50am this morning, [August] 25.

“Colin brought a lot of comfort to his audiences in a career which spanned over 30 years.

“Our sympathies and condolences go out to Colin’s family and friends.

“We, as his management, for many years would like to add that he was the most charming man with the biggest heart, who devoted his life to helping others, and he will be sorely missed.”

The TV psychic attracted controversy over a show that saw him hunt for Madeline McCann, while critics claim he employed ‘cold reading’ techniques.

Mr Fry did not often discuss his private life, but has spoken on occasion of being the victim of childhood homophobia. He recounted: “I was always bullied. The bullies realised I was gay before I did.”

He also spoke out last year after the husband of psychic Sally Morgan was caught on camera shouting homophobic abuse at a skeptic.

Mr Fry had said: “I deplore all forms of prejudice, and of course I have personal reasons for particularly detesting any form of homophobia. Every one is welcome to attend my shows of any race, gender , religion or sexual orientation, even skeptics!”

He previously hit out at the then-Pope Benedict XVI in 2010, claiming: “I despise organised religion, and I can’t stand it when people think that their religion is somehow better than everyone else’s.

“As a gay man, I had a huge problem with the Pope’s recent visit. I have nothing against Catholics; I have lots of Catholic friends. But, his trip was not a trip of peace and love.

“I could not understand why he was here, when he constantly makes vile and unacceptable attacks on the lives of gay, lesbian and transgender people.”
