Rosie O’Donnell opens up after missing daughter scare: ‘No mother is perfect’

Gabby Jeffries August 21, 2015

Rosie O’Donnell has spoken for the first since after her 17-year-old daughter was reported missing, and subsequently found.

The comedian, who was a panellist on ‘The View’ until earlier this year, pleaded for help earlier this week after her 17-year-old daughter Chelsea O’Donnell went missing for a week.

A statement on her website claimed that “Chelsea stopped taking her medicine and is in need of medical attention”. Just six hours after the appeal was put out, her daughter was found safe by police officers at a house in New Jersey, and was returned home.

O’Donnell, who has recently endured a break-up with her wife Michelle and a dramatic exit from The View, has not spoken about the incident any further until today.

Responding to someone labelling her a “perfect mom”, she responded: “no mom is perfect – we all do our best”.

She added: “when someone u love is drowning in the rapids – u throw everything u can into the water – hoping they will grab on – stay afloat #believe”.

The comic also tweeted of the man that her daughter had been found with: “he is a creep and needs to stay away from her.

She added: “i know him – i have left him 20 messages – and seen his junk – i know he is a creepy shit”.

Police confirmed previously that no arrests had been made and Chelsea O’Donnell willingly complied with them.

They said: “She is being brought back to Nyack right now and everything is fine with her. She is in good health.”

After making a return to the popular panel show last year, O’Donnell quit in February after confirming a split from her wife.

A statement said: “I can confirm that Rosie and her wife Michelle split in November. Rosie has teens and an infant at home that need her attention.

“This has been a very stressful situation. She is putting her personal health and family first. ABC has been wonderfully understanding and supportive of her personal decision to leave The View.”
