Jedward lookalike fined after stealing vibrator ‘for his own use’

A man described as having a ‘Jedward-like’ quiff has pleaded guilty to shoplifting – after stealing hairspray, spot cream and a vibrating sex toy.

23-year-old Stephen Joe McQueen appeared in Somerset Magistrates’ Court this month over the incident at a Superdrug store in Chard, Somerset.

According to the Western Daily Press, he walked in to the store in April and pocketed Neutrogena spot cream, hairspray, deodorant, and a ‘Passionate Bullet’.

When staff noticed an empty vibrator box on the floor, they reviewed the CCTV – and were able to recognise the thief due to his resemblance to pop duo Jedward.

According to the newspaper, prosecutor Lucy Coleman said: “[The team leader] noticed he had a Jedward style haircut which was spikey on the top and then found a packet of paracetamols on the floor and an empty ‘Passionate Bullet’ box on a shelf.

“CCTV showed the same male with the distinctive haircut selecting the bullet and concealing it in his pocket and another member of staff also discovered an empty box which should have contained some spot cream.

“He said he went there knowing he needed some hairspray and the pleasure bullet was for his own use but said he knew it was stupid and it wouldn’t happen again.”

Defending, Louise Eaves claimed that the man had been diagnosed with ADHD, and suffers from mental health problems.

She told the court: “He takes pride in his appearance and felt the need to get some hairspray and got carried away while in Superdrug,” she said.

“He had stopped taking his medication due to the chaotic lifestyle he was leading and was acting impulsively and not his normal self, but since then his medication has been stabilised.”

He pleaded guilty to one count of shoplifting, and was fined £7, ordered to pay £13 compensation, a £150 court charge and a £20 victim surcharge.
