Caitlyn Jenner is facing manslaughter charges over fatal car crash

Nick Duffy August 21, 2015

Transgender icon Caitlyn Jenner could be facing jail – as police plan to recommend manslaughter charges over her role in a fatal car crash.

In February, shortly before coming out as transgender, the former Olympian and TV reality star was involved in a three car pile-up on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, which killed one person and injured seven others.

Ms Jenner is facing legal action on a number of fronts over the incident, with the family of deceased woman Kimberly Howe filing one lawsuit, and Hollywood talent manager Jessica Marie Steindorff  filing a second.

However, the situation may grow worse – as a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detective said the case could lead to a misdemeanour manslaughter charge.

Misgendering the star, he claimed: “We did determine in the investigation that Jenner was going at an unsafe speed for the prevailing conditions, even though he was travelling under the posted speed limit.

“Jenner’s case is going to go to the district attorney next week to see if it is worthy of a misdemeanour violation for involuntary manslaughter.”

In her only statement about the crash, Jenner said: “My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident.

“It is a devastating tragedy, and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them.”

She has repeatedly refused to speak further about it.
