Out entrepreneur Ivan Massow has welcomed a baby son with a lesbian friend.

Mr Massow is an openly gay businessman who first rose to prominence in the 1990s, when he began offering financial services and insurance specially catered to gay people.

He announced earlier this year that he would seek the Conservative nomination to run for Mayor of London – but last month failed to make the party’s short-list.

Last night the entrepreneur announced the birth of his son – the 11lb baby Theo.

He explained that the baby’s mother – who is a lesbian – will move into his London townhouse as the pair raise the child.

He said previously: “I’ve wanted to do this for such a long time I thought if I don’t do it now I’ll probably be too old. I know the situation is odd. But I thought ‘go for it’.

“I went down the internet route, because I didn’t want some mock relationship with friends. Those relationships fall to pieces sometimes.

“I wanted to start with a matter-of-fact agreement and build a rock-solid friendship.”

Speaking to the Evening Standard, he said he was not at all “squeamish” about the baby’s birth via caesarean section last Thursday.

He added: “He was very heavy. Actually he was very puffy when he came out, apparently they always are. Now he’s lost all that puffiness, and he’s actually much cuter.”

The newspaper adds that the 47-year-old is currently dating 20-year-old geology student Harry Winter.

The millionaire entrepreneur recently told PinkNews earlier this week that he had already sold all of his business interests in order to run for Mayor.

He said: “I think it’s about being very hands on… I’ve sold all my businesses, and all my interests to do this… probably slightly prematurely!”
