The National Assembly for Wales is today flying the rainbow flag – to mark the 30th Pride Cymru celebrations in Cardiff.

Thousands of people descended on the Welsh capital for today’s event, which is the largest annual Pride event in Wales.

The Pride Cymru parade kicked off from Churchill Way through Cardiff city Centre, with organisers expecting thousands of participants.

Original members of the group Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners marched – after their story was told in the recent film Pride.

The devolved Welsh Assembly is flying the rainbow flag for the day to celebrate.

The Assembly’s official account tweeted: “@AssemblyWales proud to fly the rainbow flag in support of #PrideCymru”.

It flies the flag regularly – also doing so to mark LGBT History Month earlier this year, as well as to mark the International Day Against Homophobic and Transphobia

Lu Thomas, Chair of Pride Cymru said: “We’re excited to welcome up to 20,000 visitors to the Welsh capital to revel in the sunshine at Pride Cymru’s main event at Coopers Field, Cardiff, including all of our visitors, entertainers and speakers, market traders and advice network, as well as our generous partners and sponsors.
