Mr Gay World 2010, Charl Van Den Berg dies aged 33

South Africa’s Mr Gay World 2010 has passed away, aged 33.

Charl Van Den Berg, who was crowned Mr Gay South Africa in 2009, and Mr Gay World in 2010, died in hospital earlier this week.

According to an announcement on Facebook, his funeral will take place on 14 August.

Van Den Berg was crowned with the title in 2010 in Oslo.

The announcement of his death from lymphoma was made on his Facebook page.

It read: “Charl was admitted to hospital earlier this week but lost his battle to Lymphoma (Cancer). Charl’s funeral will take place on Friday the 14th of August at 14:00pm at Mosaiek.”

On winning the title in 2010, the restauranteur from Cape Down said:

“It’s my aim to help break down stereotypes and differing mindsets in the global community and promote oneness and equality for all people by bridging the gap between those mindsets.

“It is my understanding that people are people before we are different.”
