Politician gives touching response when asked about gay marriage opposition
One of the hopefuls in the Republican presidential candidacy has given a moving speech about how he would still love his child if they were gay.
Ohio Governor John Kasich, made the comments at the Cleveland GOP primary last night.
Despite admitting he is against same-sex marriage, he said he would love his child just the same, if they were gay, and that he would go to their wedding.
Asked by host Megyn Kelly how he would explain his opposition to same-sex marriage to one of his children if they came out, he said: “Look, I’m an old-fashioned person here and I happen to believe in traditional marriage. But I’ve also said that the court has ruled … and I said we’ll accept it.”
He referred to June, when the US Supreme Court ruled that all couples, same or opposite-sex, have a constitutional right to marriage.
Kasich went on: “And guess what? I just went to a wedding of a friend of mine who happens to be gay. Because somebody doesn’t think the way I do doesn’t mean that I can’t care about them or I can’t love them. So if one of my daughters happened to be that, of course I would love them and I would accept them. Because you know what? That’s what we’re taught when we have strong faith.”
He said he would love his daughters “no matter what they do.”
“Issues like that are planted to divide us. I think the simple fact of the matter is — and this is where I would agree with Jeb, and I’ve been saying it all along — we need to give everybody a chance, treat everybody with respect, and let them share in this great in this great American dream that we have, Megyn,” Kasich told Kelly.
“So, look, I’m going to love my daughters. I’m going to love them no matter what they do. Because you know what? God lives me unconditional love. I’m going to give it to my family, and my friends, and the people around me.”
The crowd at the primary gave Kasich a loud round of applause.
This came in strong contrast to notorious homophobe Rick Santorum, who hailed America for equality, despite his own personal and strong opposition to moves such as same-sex marriage.
The former Pennsylvania senator apparently failed to remember that he is adamantly anti-gay, and that he is a staunch opponent to equal rights for LGBT Americans.

He said: “The reason America is a great country, the reason is because our compassion is in our laws.
“When we treat everyone equally under the law, that’s when we feel good about being Americans.”
Bette Midler weighed in on the debate, comparing it to when Lenny Kravitz’s penis fell out on stage at a concert in Stockholm.
The star took to Twitter to compare the debate to Lenny Kravitz, who had an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction, when his genitals were fully exposed during a show in Stockholm.
She wrote: “Lenny Kravitz’s penis slipped out on stage? So what? Wait for the GOP Debate on tonight – there will be 10 dicks on stage!”
