This politician wants to put gays on an island

An American politician has devised a plan to highlight opposite-sex marriage as “the preferred marriage” – by sending gays and lesbians to an island.

Louie Gohmert, a Republican Representative from Texas, told a group of young conservatives about his proposed experiment to test out the longevity of same-sex marriage.

“We could take four heterosexual couples, married, and put them on an island where they have everything they need to sustain life.

“Then take four all-male couples and put them on an island with all they need to sustain life, take four couples of women, married, and put them on an island, and let’s come back in 100 to 200 years and see which one nature says is the preferred marriage.”

Gohmert seems to suggest that without the natural ability to procreate, the same-sex couples would die out – therefore rendering same-sex marriage redundant.
However, there seem to be a few holes in Gohmert’s logic.

Firstly, what if the straight couples don’t want children, or can’t have any? What if the children created by the straight couples grow up gay? When he comes back to check in 200 years, won’t the straight island be filled with one giant, inbred family?

This isn’t the first time Gohmert has aired his somewhat strange opinions on LGBT rights.

In the past he has compared gay rights advocates to Nazis in the US House of Representativesclaimed that equal marriage will force churches to hire cross dressers and Satan worshippers, and – most bizarrely – argued that gay people shouldn’t serve in the military because they’ll need massages.
