Accuser: Bill Cosby didn’t pick up on cues that I’m a lesbian
Court documents reveal a woman who accused Bill Cosby of sexual assault challenged claims they had consensual sexual contact – because she is gay.
Andrea Constand, a former Temple University employee, claims she was assaulted by the comedian in 2004, after the pair struck up a friendship.
Court filings unsealed this month revealed her claims that she was given pills by the comedian for stress, and woke up at 4am with her clothes askew. Cosby claims it was only Benadryl.
Ms Constand is the only one of Cosby’s accusers to have reached a settlement with the star over her sexual-battery and defamation lawsuit – but AP reports that each side is now accusing the other of breaking the agreement’s confidentiality clause.
Cosby said he considered their sexual contact to be consensual, saying: “I think that I’m a pretty decent reader of people and their emotions in these romantic sexual things, whatever you want to call them.”
However, lawyer Dolores Troiani challenged this, writing: “Despite his talent for interpreting female reactions to him, he did not realize plaintiff was gay until the police told him.”
35 women accusing Cosby of assaulting them appeared on the cover of New York magazine this week.
The comedian denies all wrongdoing.
