Still ‘Wannabe’ in with the Spice Girls? Hit turns 19 today

Believe it or not, it’s been 19 years since the Spice Girls topped the charts with Wannabe.

The all-girl pop group took the music scene by storm in 1996 with their first smash hit – two years after the band first formed.

In the 1990s, it was crucial to identify with one of them- whether it was Scary Spice, Sporty Spice, Baby Spice, Ginger Spice or Posh Spice.

Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell and Victoria Beckham’s first album, Spice, ranked as best-selling album by an all-girl group in music history.

“Say You’ll Be There” and “2 Become 1” transformed into top hits as well.
