Anti-gay Republican Rick Santorum has claimed that same-sex couples getting married in the US will “disrupt the foundation of the world”.

Speaking to CBS, the Republican Presidential wannabe suggested that because the US is a “moral leader”, the Supreme Court’s ruling on equality last month will have an impact globally.

Mr Santorum – who appears to have had a spray tan since the last time he spewed homophobia, one week ago – claimed: “It really is a further erosion of this foundational building block of society, which is the nuclear family.

“Over the last 40 years we’ve seen a degradation of the nuclear foundation, no doubt about it. This put the nail in the coffin in that we now disconnect the idea of the nuclear family in that it’s there for the purpose of raising children.”

He claimed: “Now that the United States, as the moral leader of the world… now we have disconnected marriage from children, that has profound consequences not just for America but for the world.”

…Though honestly, the real story is Rick Santorum paid money for someone to do this to him.

Back in 2012 Santorum claimed that equal marriage would destroy churches, families and “disintegrate” marriage. He said at the time that legalising same-sex marriage would “destroy the institutions of America’s foundation… and destroy the American family.”

Last year, as well as claiming that same-sex marriage damaged the economy by destroying families, Mr Santorum also claimed that homosexuality was a choice, stating, “I think anybody’s behaviour is a choice. Behaviour is a choice.”

In April – in case it needed clarifying – he confirmed that he would not attend the same-sex wedding of a family member or loved one, saying, “As a person of my faith, that would be something that would be a violation of my faith.

“I would love them and support them but I would not participate in that ceremony.”

And it is not just gay people Mr Santorum has an issue with – he has also spoken out against Caitlyn Jenner’s transition.
