Ofcom has said it won’t investigate comments made on Loose Women by Coleen Nolan, when she appeared to compare a ‘support gay marriage’ cake to one supporting ISIS.

Broadcasting regulator Ofcom earlier this year received 140 complaints about comments made by broadcaster Coleen Nolan on Loose Women in a discussion about a discrimination ruling against a Northern Irish bakery.

Nolan made the comments while hosting the ITV programme, and was joined by Janet Street-Porter and Jamelia, as they discussed the ruling made in Belfast which found that Ashers Bakery unlawfully discriminated by refusing to make a pro-same-sex marriage cake.

She compared asking for a “support gay marriage” cake to asking for one supporting ISIS, the militant group which publicly executes gay people.

An Ofcom spokesperson today told PinkNews: “We assessed a number of complaints that it was offensive for a panellist to compare same sex marriage to the terrorist group ISIS, but won’t be taking the matter forward for investigation.

“In our view, these unscripted comments during a live programme were unlikely to exceed the expectations of the audience and were justified by the context.”

Earlier this week a branch of Walmart in the US was forced to apologise after it accidentally completed an order for an ISIS cake, after refusing to make a Confederate flag cake for a customer.
