Mayor of London Boris Johnson has welcomed the thousands of people planning to attend Pride in London today.

The Pride in London parade takes place today through the capital’s West End.

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “I am delighted to support London’s Pride celebrations, which underline the capital’s reputation as one of the most LGBT friendly cities on the planet.

“London is home to one of the biggest, most visible and most diverse LGBT populations in the world. It’s a community that contributes a huge amount to our city’s success – socially, culturally and economically.

“I welcome the progress that has been made towards greater equality, which is down to the many individuals who have been prepared to make a stand for what is right and fair.

“London’s annual Pride celebrations are the envy of the world and, to the thousands hitting the capital’s streets for this year’s extravaganza, I hope you have a fantastic Pride.”

The Pride flag is being raised at City Hall to mark this year’s celebrations.
