Twitter has exploded with discussion of same-sex marriage following the Supreme Court verdict.

The US Supreme Court has today ruled that same-sex marriage is a constitutional right – paving the way for weddings in all 50 states.

The highest court in the US made the decision after hearing ‘mega-case’ Obergefell v. Hodges.

1.17 million tweets with the hashtag #LoveWins were sent into the Twittersphere only two hours after the public heard the official ruling. Social media users also tweeted 716,000 posts involving the Supreme Court and 89,500 with the word “Scalia,” in discussion of the conservative Supreme Court Justice.

As with most historical change in recent times, the social media generation approached the issue with humor.
