This woman pretended to have an abortion to give her baby to a gay friend
A woman has been sentenced to three years in prison for pretending to have an abortion in order to give her baby to her gay friend.
The 29-year-old told the biological father of the child that she had an abortion, and gave the baby to her friend.
The biological father of the child only suspected something was amiss when someone told him he was the “spitting image” of the child.
In order to convince the child’s biological father that their story was real, the woman and the gay man created a Facebook page for a fictional surrogate mother.
The pair also signed the birth certificate to claim that they both were the biological parents of the child, however this was disproven by a DNA test later.
Jailed for the same period was the 35-year-old man who had been bringing up the child.
The six-day trial took place at Perth Sheriff Court earlier this month, and the court heard that the woman had possibly sold the baby to the friend for as little as £100.

On handing down the sentences, Sheriff William Wood said: “In all respects this was an elaborate and cynical scheme.
“Neither of you have accepted responsibility for your conduct. You have little insight into your actions and the consequences for others. The maintenance of your innocence does neither of you any credit.
“You persisted in this wicked scheme for a period of almost three years, until the father was able to get to the truth. Had it not been for his determination there may well have been further damage to this child.”
The biological father of the girl said he was “over the moon” that they had been found guilty, speaking last month.
He said: “It’s going to take years and years of battle to try and make my daughter understand. That’s the biggest part of it that hasn’t really been in the case, the emotional trauma for my little girl.
“What they did was pure evil. They must have known the effect this would have on my daughter and me and they still went through with it.”
