Singer and LGBT rights activist Miley Cyrus was brought to tears last night at the amfAR Inspiration Gala, where she was recognised for her work in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

The 22-year-old was honoured alongside talk show host Andy Cohen at the sixth annual Gala in New York City.

She arrived at the event with Tyler Ford, a former contestant on the Glee Project, and posted a photo of them saying he is “a queer, bi-racial, agender person.”

As well as the awards, the Inspiration Gala included a runway show, a performance by Mary J Blige and an auction during which signed copies of Caitlyn Jenner’s famed Vanity Fair cover were auctioned off.
