Laverne Cox unveils interactive #PoweredByPride mural in New York

Orange is the New Black actress Laverne Cox has launched an interactive Pride mural in New York through which LGBT charities get money when members of the public post selfies.

Cox joined Equinox as a spokesperson for the launch of the campaign, which supports the LGBT community and global pride month around the globe.

It launched in New York and San Francisco, and will soon Land in London, invites people to attend the interactive mural in support of ‘universal love’.

Created by world famous street-artist David Flores, Equinox has committed to donate $1 for each #POWEREDBYPRIDE selfie post to the Henrik-Martin Institute in the US, and £1 for each post to the Pillion Trust in the UK – with funds going towards both their works with LGBTQ youths who are at risk or living on the streets.

Of the campaign Laverne Cox said: “Pride for me is about living authentically, having the courage and power to stand tall spiritually, emotionally and physically in my truth.  Join me by sharing what pride means to you and visiting the Equinox mural – to share a kiss in support of universal love!”

The Hetrick-Martin Institute is a charity seeking to foster healthy development for struggling LGBTQ youth. “We are proud to work with Equinox as they understand and embrace the importance of wellness, both physically and emotionally,” says Dara Gordon Chief Operating Officer of the Hentrick-Martin Institute. “We love that Equinox supports our work and is celebrating Pride as it is essential to rise up our community.”

“Equinox and the #POWEREDBYPRIDE activation is so important because it recognizes the need to help brighten the future of those individuals who are at risk, both emotionally and physically,” says Savvas Panas, CEO of The Pillion Trust.
