The mother of Twilight actress Kristen Stewart has denied talking about the star’s girlfriend during an interview.

The actress, who was previously linked to a string of men including Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson, usually refuses to speak about her own private life and sexuality.

However, the Sunday Mirror carried an interview with Jules Stewart, the star’s mum, in which she supposedly claimed her daughter is in a relationship Alicia Cargile.

The paper claims she said: “I’ve met Kristen’s new girlfriend, I like her. What’s not to accept? She’s a lovely girl.

“I feel like people need to be free to love whoever they want. I accept my daughter loves women and men.”

However, Jules Stewart has since claimed that she has been misquoted – and did not discuss her daughter’s love life.

She told US Weekly: “I spoke to [journalist] Sharon Feinstein about my film K-11 that has been put on display in the Hollywood Museum.

“It’s currently there under the LGBT banner on the third floor. She also asked me about my views on gay rights, which I was happy to express. Then we talked briefly about the fundraiser I am hosting for TheWolfConnection.org.

“Never ever did we discuss Kristen!”

Ms Stewart says that when she was asked about Ms Cargile she said she was a “lovely girl” – but did not confirm her daughter was dating her.

However, the freelance journalist who recorded the interview has hit back – and threatened to upload a recording of the interview.

Sharon Feinstein tweeted: “When someone has spoken to a journalist in good faith it isn’t fair to blatantly deny it and call the journalist’s integrity into question.

“I will be uploading the tapes to fly the flags for journalists and their integrity everywhere and stop this ubiquitous hatred and denigration of them and endless taking them to task.”
