Miley Cyrus: It was hard for my mum to understand that I’m into women
Pop star Miley Cyrus has opened up about telling her mother that she is into women, saying “it was hard for her to understand”.
The former Disney star said in an interview last month that not all of her past relationships had been “straight, heterosexual” ones.
She later said she is into men and women, but that she didn’t want to pick a label.
Now, speaking to Paper Magazine, she has elaborated, saying: “I am literally open to every single thing that is consenting and doesn’t involve an animal and everyone is of age. Everything that’s legal, I’m down with.
“Yo, I’m down with any adult – anyone over the age of 18 who is down to love me. I don’t relate to being boy or girl, and I don’t have to have my partner relate to boy or girl.”
Going on, she said coming out at 14 was difficult for her mother Tish, to understand.
“I remember telling her I admire women in a different way. And she asked me what that meant. And I said, I love them. I love them like I love boys,” she said.
“And it was so hard for her to understand. She didn’t want me to be judged and she didn’t want me to go to hell. But she believes in me more than she believes in any god. I just asked for her to accept me. And she has.”
The full interview is available in the latest issue of Paper magazine, out next week.
The Wrecking Ball singer said she did not like labels in an interview with Time Magazine in May, saying: “I’m not hiding my sexuality. For me, I don’t want to label myself as anything.
“We love putting people in categories, but what I like sexually isn’t going to label me as a person.”
