Indiana Governor makes Pride proclamation… without mentioning Pride
The Governor of Indiana has somehow managed to release a proclamation for Pride, without actually mentioning Pride itself.
Mike Pence, the Governor of Indiana, issued his first ever LGBT Pride proclamation this week, in order to welcome tourists and residents of Indianapolis to the city’s Pride celebrations.
However, somehow the proclamation failed to mention sexual orientation, gender identity or anything else about LGBT people.
Even the words ‘gay’, ‘lesbian’, ‘bisexual’, and ‘transgender’ are all absent from the statement.

On behalf of the people of Indiana, welcome to Indianapolis. I am confident that those of you who traveled from out of state will come to know our famous Hoosier Hospitality.
Our state’s capital city is well known as a destination for conventions, festivals, business meetings and other events. In fact, a recent USA TODAY Reader’s Choice digital poll ranked Indianapolis as the Best Convention City in the country.
Like so many other organizations who continue to use Indianapolis as their destination of choice, I am confident you will come to know a vibrant city.
During your stay, please explore the many entertainment options Indianapolis has to offer such as our museums, restaurants, theaters, historic landmarks, White River State Park, and the Indianapolis Zoo, just to name a few.
So, once again, welcome to Indiana. We hope you enjoy your stay.
This strange statement comes after Indiana hired a PR firm to rebuild its image after massive controversy surrounding a “religious freedom” Bill.
The bill was proposed to allow including businesses, churches and organisations to refuse to serve anyone based on their religious beliefs. It was intended to “protect” businesses from having to provide services for same-sex weddings after the effective legalisation of same-sex marriage last year.
Governor Mike Pence then updated it to protect LGBT people.
