Bahar Mustafa has been accused of racism and sexism, leaving her job in jeopardy.

The welfare and diversity officer at the Students’ Union of Goldsmiths, University of London, has come under fire for reportedly tweeting “kill all white men” as well as putting on events that banned white people and men.

A petition to call for a vote of no confidence states that she “made students feel intimidated, unsupported, and unrepresented” and “encouraged or expressed hatred based on an individual’s race, gender, or social position.”

Her Twitter account has since been closed.

In a statement, Ms Mustafa responded that her use of the term “white trash” had been unprofessional, but said: “Regarding my use of hashtags: these were done on my personal account, which is separate to my work account.

“However, I still recognise and understand how this can be alienating and troubling to some.

“These are in-jokes and ways that many people in the queer feminist community express ourselves.

“It’s a way of reclaiming the power from the trauma many of us experience as queers, women, people of colour, who are on the receiving end of racism, misogyny and homophobia daily. These are not political stances.”
