Ahead of next month’s general election, Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood has agreed to answer PinkNews readers’ questions in a Q&A.

The Plaid Cymru leader has been a long-time advocate of LGBT rights.

During the same-sex marriage debates she expressed disappointment at MPs who voted against the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill simply on the basis of the amount of negative letters they received.

She said:

But Ms Wood argued: “I can’t believe politics is by mailbag.

“So if you had a mailbag full of people saying they wanted to bring back hanging, you would vote to bring back hanging?”

Ms Wood recently slammed UKIP leader Nigel Farage during the BBC leaders’ debate, over his comments about migrants who are HIV-positive and receive treatment on the NHS

She said, to a round of applause: “I think you ought to be ashamed of yourself.”

Before becoming Plaid leader, Ms Wood joined protests against the deportation of LGBT asylum seekers, and has called for a better way to deal with homophobic bullying in schools.

Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg’s Q&A was released earlier this month.
