Man who accused X-Men director of sexual assault fined over fraud
The man who attempted to sue X-Men director Bryan Singer over allegations of sexual assault has reportedly pleaded guilty in a separate fraud case.
However Mr Singer denied all wrongdoing – and described the case as a “sick twisted shake-down” designed to hurt the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past last May.
The case was later dropped entirely. Egan, who made the original allegations, this week pleaded guilty to fraud in a separate finance case.
He was accused of making a series of false claims about his own assets and financial background in order to trick investors – before misusing their funds.
According to TMZ, Egan has agreed to a plea deal that will see him ordered to repay $304,860 – but he will avoid a jail term.
Mr Singer is one of the most successful out directors in Hollywood, and is currently gearing up to direct his fourth film in the lucrative X-Men franchise.
His other credits include The Usual Suspects, Superman Returns and last year’s Jack the Giant Slayer.
