The man who attempted to sue X-Men director Bryan Singer over allegations of sexual assault has reportedly pleaded guilty in a separate fraud case.

Michael Egan had claimed in a case last year that the out filmmaker forced him into sexual activities at parties in California and Hawaii aged 17.

However Mr Singer denied all wrongdoing – and described the case as a “sick twisted shake-down” designed to hurt the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past last May.

The case was later dropped entirely. Egan, who made the original allegations, this week pleaded guilty to fraud in a separate finance case.

He was accused of making a series of false claims about his own assets and financial background in order to trick investors – before misusing their funds.

According to TMZ, Egan has agreed to a plea deal that will see him ordered to repay $304,860 – but he will avoid a jail term.

Mr Singer is one of the most successful out directors in Hollywood, and is currently gearing up to direct his fourth film in the lucrative X-Men franchise.

His other credits include The Usual Suspects, Superman Returns and last year’s Jack the Giant Slayer.

Mr Singer welcomed the birth of a son in January this year, alongside close personal friend Michelle Clunie – who starred on Queer as Folk.

Clunie announced: “Bryan Singer and I would like to welcome our beautiful son Dashiell Julius William Clunie~Singer into the world :).”

She explained previously: “We dated. We broke up. He came out to me. We still loved each other and so made a pact we would start a family together some day. We are … very excited about co-parenting and starting our little 21st century, progressive, American family.”
