Sydney rugby league player fined for homophobic slur
South Sydney player Issac Luke has been fine for using a slur on an Instagram post.
Hooker Isaac Lukes, who also plays for the New Zealand Kiwis, posted a request to get in contact with a fan who had allegedly been attacked after a match.
Then, in response to message from rival fans, he wrote: “get off my page you lil poofters. This is about a kid your fans knocked out.”
The National Rugby League have said he has been fined $10,000 and will have to undergo an education program. They took into account the fact he deleted and apologised for the message shortly after posting it.
They said in a statement: “There is no place for vilification of any kind in rugby league.
“We believe that education is the most important element in dealing with vilification matters such as this.
“So we will require Issac to undertake an education program in tolerance and equity in addition to the financial penalty.”
