When accused of “forcing” same-sex marriage on Britain, Nick Clegg gave an amazing response.

Tweeting from his official account, Mr Clegg responded to a poster from the adamantly anti-gay Coalition for Marriage, which accused him of “forcing same-sex marriage on Britain”

The posted went on: “Use your vote for true marriage at the general election on 7 May.”

The Coalition for Marriage, which failed to stop the introduction of marriages equality – is now trying to void the marriages of gay and lesbian couples who have already married.

They have also delivered leaflets praising a MPs who voted against equality, and urged all followers in Brighton to vote for anyone else but Tory candidate Simon Kirby for voting for same-sex marriage, despite that all other candidates from all other parties also supported it.

Mr Clegg became the first main party leader to back same-sex marriage in a PinkNews readers’ Q&A in 2010.

On answering PinkNews readers’ questions, he announced his support for equal marriage, saying: “I support gay marriage”.

He later reiterated his support for marriage equality between gay and straight couples in England and Wales, affirming that it was no longer a question of ‘if’ the move will go ahead.
