TV presenter Anna Richardson has asked people to help cheer up her girlfriend Sue Perkins – after she was hounded off Twitter by death threats.

The comedian has been subjected to a sustained campaign of harassment and death threats, after she was touted as a potential replacement for Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear.

Perkins has quit the social network in a bid to get away from the hateful messages – but her partner Anna Richardson is now asking people to prove to her that Twitter can be positive.

She tweeted: “My partner @sueperkins is off Twitter thanks to abuse over false rumours that she’s up for #TopGear. We’re just 2 girls trying to live life.

“If you get the chance, draw a kiss on a piece of paper, take a selfie & post. I’ll give them to her, it’ll cheer her up. X”

The Secret Eaters host was sent a barrage of pictures from people trying to cheer up her girlfriend.

Richardson later tweeted: “THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUE SMOOCHES!! @sueperkins sends big love back and says Thankyou. Now she’s off for a cuppa in the sun…x”

Top Gear host James May recently told fans who were harassing Perkins to “kill themselves”.

Sue Perkins and Anna Richardson first revealed they were together in January.
