Boy George has spoken out to praise Bruce Jenner – who is set to make a personal revelation in an interview later this month.

The former Olympian and ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ reality star will sit down for a much-hyped interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer, in which Jenner is widely expected to come out as transgender.

Supermarket tabloids in the US have intensely scrutinised Jenner’s appearance for months, with InTouch magazine coming under fire for a crudely photoshopped photo of Jenner as a woman in January.

One of the only transgender reporters in the US recently criticized the media spectacle of Jenner’s interview as a “big circus” – but Boy George spoke out to protect the star.

He told People: “I absolutely applaud what he’s doing and I think it’s very brave. And it actually makes me quite emotional. He has my 150 per cent support in every way.”

The Culture Club singer added: “I think that the whole transgender thing is the new frontier.

“You see people on TV and you feel like you have a relationship with them because they’re in your house, they’re in your living room every day, and you feel close to them.

“I think maybe in that respect, people have been able to get know him and get to know the family.”

ABC will air a special two-hour edition of 20/20 on April 24 featuring Jenner. The interview had already been recorded.
