John Travolta condemns ‘hearsay’ claims about personal life in Scientology doc
John Travolta has dismissed allegations that he is being forced to stay part of the Church of Scientology over claims about his personal life.
Documentary ‘Going Clear’, which aired on HBO last month, claimed the religion pressures its celebrity members into remaining in the church – by threatening to leak video-taped confessions about their personal life.
The documentary intensely scrutinised actors Tom Cruise and John Travolta over their involvement with the church – but Travolta has rubbished allegations the church is hiding a secret about his personal life.
He told the Tampa Bay Times: “No, I haven’t [seen it]… and I don’t really care to.
“I haven’t experienced anything that the hearsay has [claimed], so why would I communicate something that wasn’t true for me?
“It wouldn’t make sense, nor would it for Tom, I imagine.”
He added: “I’ve been so happy with my [Scientology] experience in the last 40 years, that I really don’t have anything to say that would shed light on [a documentary] so decidedly negative.
“I’ve been brought through storms that were insurmountable, and (Scientology has) been so beautiful for me, that I can’t even imagine attacking it.”
A court ruled last year that Travolta could not stop a lawsuit from a man who claims to be his former gay lover.
Travolta’s lawyers claim that Mr Gotterba signed a contract which would prevent him from revealing personal information about his employer – while Gotterba claims he signed nothing that would stop him from doing so.
Travolta was previously cleared of claims he sexually assaulted a number of male masseuses.
