HIV charity mourns loss of volunteer in Germanwings tragedy

An Australian HIV and AIDS charity has expressed condolences to the family and friends of a volunteer who died in the Germanwings crash yesterday.

Greig Friday, a longstanding volunteer for the Victoria AIDS Council (VAC)was among those lost in the Flight 4U9525 tragedy, along with his mother Carol, reports the Star Observer.

Australian Foreign Minister Julia Bishop confirmed that both died when the plane crashed in the southern French Alps, whilst flying from Barcelona to Dusseldorf in the early hours of yesterday morning.

There were no survivors as 150 people died on the crash.

Friday, who graduated as a mechanical engineer in 2012, worked as a volunteer facilitator for the VAC’s Young and Gay Peer Education initiative for several years, and was featured in a 2010 promotional campaign.

Tributes were paid today by staff and fellow volunteers.
