Pop singer Lil’ Chris has died at the age of 24, it has been confirmed.

Chris – real name Christopher Hardman – first rose to prominence when he was featured in the second series of the Channel 4 documentary, ‘Rock School’, which saw Gene Simmons trying to create a rock band from a group of high school students.

He had several singles chart in the UK top 20 as a solo artist, most notably ‘Checkin’ It Out’, which reached the number three spot when it was released back in 2006.

In January last year, Hardman was among several celebrities to take part in the ‘Naked’ issue of Gay Times (GT).

He told Celeb Goss that he had received an “awesome” response from his fans over the shoot.

“Well. The shoot was for The National AIDS Trust, I joined a bunch of other ‘Celebs’ to raise money and awareness. I thought i looked great. I love getting my kit of for one reason or another. So what a fantastic excuse. The response has been awesome! I’ve made loads of new fans.”

Suffolk Police said it was not treating the death, reported on Monday, as suspicious.

The force was called to an address in Union Road, Lowestoft, at around 11:45am to reports a man had died suddenly, a spokeswoman said.

A post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death is due to take place, and a file will be passed to the coroner, she added.

Hardman was also an actor and TV personality, starring in the West End premiere of James Bourne and Elliot Davis’s musical Loserville in 2012.

Friend and collaborator Lloyd Wilkinson wrote on Facebook today: “I cannot believe I’m doing this and I’m completely devastated.

“Rest in peace brother bear. Love you mate. Chris Hardman aka Lil’ Chris.”
