Nick Clegg: Leave Nigel Farage’s kids out of anti-UKIP demonstrations

Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg has criticised the intimidation of Nigel Farage’s wife and kids during anti-UKIP demonstrations.

HIV activist Dan Glass yesterday organised an anti-UKIP diversity rally – with activists targeting the UKIP leader while he was having lunch with his family in the Queen’s Head in Downe, Orpington.

A group of protesters – from a number of anti-UKIP groups – chased Mr Farage out of the pub this afternoon in fancy dress, while his children “fled and hid”.

Nigel Farage yesterday savaged the activists – who were protesting the party’s poor record on HIV, gay rights and race – saying “these people are scum”.

Today, Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg leapt to Farage’s defence, also condemning the protesters.

He wrote: “I disagree with Nigel Farage too but leave his wife and kids out of it. Intimidating a politician’s family is never acceptable.”

Mr Glass said previously: “UKIP are a con. They pretend to be anti-establishment but this couldn’t be further from the truth.

“That is why so many diverse communities have taken our cultures to the heart of where they exist – Nigel Farage’s local pub. We will not succumb to their prejudice.”

When asked in October which kinds of people should be allowed to enter the UK, Farage replied: “People who do not have HIV, to be frank. That’s a good start.”
